Functional sophistication

The subtle matte finish gives the material a natural feel and invites touch, adding a quiet sophistication that elevates any interior. Warm to touch but resistant to fingerprints, it effortlessly retains a clean, pristine appearance.

Furniture Linoleum is a strong and resilient surface material. Its natural composition and special surface finish make Furniture Linoleum naturally antistatic. The surface actively resists the build-up of static charges and prevents dust or dirt from sticking to the surface, making it easy to clean.

Natural composition

Furniture Linoleum not only stands out for its beauty but also for its purity. Made from natural ingredients like linseed oil, wood flour, pine rosin and limestone, it offers a sustainable alternative to synthetic materials. Each component is carefully selected to create a surface that is both high-performing and environmentally responsible.

The natural composition of Furniture Linoleum means it ages gracefully, with an organic patina that only enhances over time, rather than showing wear and degradation.

Student challenges

Over the years we have been initiating collaborations and partnerships with designers, architects, furniture labels and design academies. Working with these makers helps us to identify what is relevant for future collection developments and innovations.

We challenge students from design academies worldwide to work with our Furniture Linoleum and create whatever they feel can be made with it. Working with young designers allows us to look at our products in a different way, exploring the possibilities from a different angle, whilst allowing students to express their creativity and gain work experience

Collaboration with Stefan Scholten

Stefan Scholten, internationally renowned designer and a leading representative of Dutch design, has worked for prestigious clients such as HAY, Maharam, Cappellini, Nanimarquina and 1616 / Arita. Based on his unique use of colour, reductionist and functional designs, Forbo Flooring approached him with a special assignment.

Inspired by the unique naturalness of of linoleum, designer Stefan Scholten developed the soft colour shades clay, leather and walnut:
“I wanted to understand the pure material based on the original recipe. As a reference I used the natural materials that you find in interiors, such as wood, leather, pottery and textiles, and I searched for the original nuance. The end result echoes an emotional value and at the same time is optimally applicable.”

Choosing Furniture Linoleum means investing in quality, sustainability and an authentic connection to natural materials, providing an elevated, conscious alternative for your designs.

Crafted from nature

What makes Furniture Linoleum special is that it is created from raw materials obtained from their natural habitat.

Forbo's Furniture Linoleum is made from 94% natural raw materials. 79% of these materials are renewable, such as linseed oil, pine rosin and PEFC wood flour from recycled sources. The other 15% natural ingredients consist of limestone and mineral pigments. The final additions are pigments, a protective finish and felt paper binder.

Our ingredients remove far more CO2 from the air than we emit in our manufacturing process. This makes Furniture Linoleum a climate positive product (cradle to gate).

Climate positive

Furniture Linoleum is climate positive from cradle to gate, without the need for offsetting, and contributes to reducing global warming.

Linoleum is unique as it has CO2 uptake in the product itself. The 79% renewable raw materials from which Furniture Linoleum is made, take up carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere during their growth. The photosynthesis of the biobased materials used in linoleum provides CO2 uptake that exceeds the CO2 emissions caused by transportation and production processing. For each square meter of Furniture Linoleum produced, 456 g of CO2 is removed from the atmosphere.
