Ample time has been taken for the new construction of the Huygens College in Heerhugowaard, The Netherlands. Thanks to a well thought-out plan, a light and inspiring building has arisen that everyone embraces. The floors are a striking part of the playful design, which manifests itself in tortuous shapes that reflect the North Holland landscape.

More than 7,000 m2 Sphera homogeneous vinyl flooring has been installed. The floor covering is extended to the lockers, urging the user to sit on it. "We wanted to bring floor and wall together in a harmonious whole," says Marc de Rooij of BRT Architects.

"By applying many oblique and round shapes, also in the transition from floor to wall, you create dynamics and distinctive places. The floors in the corridors are extended to the wall, which also has a protective function: the walls will become less dirty and damaged. "

The yellow decorative triangles in the auditorium refer to the mathematical forms of Christiaan Huygens after whom the school is named. On the staircases Eternal Wood vinyl flooring has been installed. The floors have been installed beautifully by Van der Laan Installers, a great piece of craftsmanship.
