During the renovation of this industrial building, which was built in 1858 as a textile factory, hydraulic energy from the adjacent mill was used. The building is now a public library.
The new space has a system of crossed walkways around a ceiling-hung staircase, which allows for a good overview of the whole due to the visual relationships and transparencies created between the different levels. In the library, the traces and textures of the past have been preserved on the walls, such as the irregularities where the pulleys and belts were anchored.
With Forbo's grey Marmoleum Walton floor covering, the architect wanted to emphasise the industrial aspect of the building.
