The Protestant University of Applied Sciences Rhineland-Westphalia-Lippe in Bochum was built in the 1950s and modernized in 2024. The university underwent a comprehensive renovation within a year while remaining in operation. The refurbishment focused on energy efficiency improvements, an upgrade of the main entrance, enhancing the quality of the entrance hall and auditorium, and installing an electronic guidance system. The modernization was designed by Vervoorts & Schindler Architekten (LINK) and aimed to make the university future-ready and inviting.
A special emphasis was placed on the interior design to create a welcoming atmosphere. The entrance hall greets visitors with warm tones: dark green walls are complemented by a gray-green Marmoleum Cocoa linoleum floor, ensuring a harmonious design. A standout feature is the custom-made oak seating, equipped with integrated plant containers, seamlessly blending into the wooden window frames.
