The children's hospital in Zurich, often affectionately referred to as “Kispi”, employs almost 2,600 people, offers around 230 beds and treats around 8,500 inpatients and 90,000 outpatients every year. Since its founding in 1874, the Zurich Children's Hospital has played a leading role in medical care and research relating to the health of children and adolescents.

The hospital offers a comprehensive range of medical services for patients from birth to young adulthood. These include, among others, pediatric cardiology, oncology, neurology and specialized centers for rare diseases and genetic disorders. Particular attention is also paid to the development of new treatment approaches and state-of-the-art therapies, which are regularly tested and further developed in clinical studies.

Since November 2024, the children's hospital has been housed in a state-of-the-art new building designed according to the latest standards for children's hospitals. The architecture and equipment are aimed at the needs of children and young people and contribute to a better recovery environment, because it takes more than medicine for sick children to get well again. You also need a feeling of security and safety. For this reason, the architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron opted for child-friendly architecture in the new building with lots of wood, green retreats and natural materials in the patient rooms.

Marmoleum from Forbo was chosen as the floor covering for the patient rooms, lounges, laboratories and hallways. This climate-positive linoleum floor is very popular in the healthcare sector: it is hygienic, durable and particularly sustainable. Marmoleum is made from natural materials such as linseed oil, wood flour and jute. Its antimicrobial properties ensure a hygienic environment, which is particularly important in hospitals. The large selection of colors and designs made it possible to create a child-friendly, calming environment in the Zurich Children's Hospital. The homogeneous Colorex SD vinyl flooring was laid in the operating areas and the rooms with sensitive equipment. The conductive special covering is particularly suitable for use in sensitive clinical areas as it meets specific hygiene and safety requirements.
