The flooring design of the SS Nomadic & Hamilton Graving Dock was based on the original pattern and drawn up on CAD. The design department at Forbo Flooring in Kirkcaldy were able to interpret these CAD details and deck layouts into a design for the First Class Areas which was high pressure water jet cut and hand assembled.
A simpler design using the same colours but simplified into a design of bands and panels was used for the Second Class spaces. Although the choice of floor covering was driven by the desire to replace the material with something that matched as closely as possible to the original, the Marmoleum floor covering is also the ideal choice for durability and ease of maintenance. The new 'Topshield' coating means that the flooring can be cleaned with only warm water and guarantees that the floor covering is suitable for heavy trafficked areas underneath the tourists feet.
