Edeka Supermarkets

When the baker next door gave up his business, the Berlin grocer Hans-Joachim Reske and his son Tim didn't miss the opportunity: 120 square metres of additional shopping space for customers plus a new, modern appearance for the supermarket - a unique opportunity! The conversion was planned meticulously, the reopening date set and met? Market manager Tim Reske talks about a tremendous shock they encountered when refurbishing and an unexpected rescue in the shape of Allura Puzzle.

Reske Edeka-Markt

Mr Reske, when did you realize that something wasn't going according to plan?

When the shelving was taken down and the refrigerated counters dismantled, we saw that the old tiles underneath were cracked and looked pretty battered. It would have taken forever to repair it
and it would not have matched the high-quality new interior in the Alexanderplatz style either. Of course there was a lot of disappointment at first.

Originally you wanted to keep the old floor covering?

Yes, that was the plan, mainly for cost reasons. But when we then saw the gutted market, we quickly realized: that's not possible, we also have to replace the floor. But we hadn't planned any time for it and had no idea how it could work. Our interior designer then referred us to Forbo.

Why did you choose Allura Puzzle vinyl flooring?

The concrete look suits our new facility perfectly, we were very lucky that 800 square metres of it were available at such short notice. But the main reason was clearly that it was just super fast.

The goods were delivered just a few days after the order was placed, on a Monday, I remember that very well. On the same day, the installers made the underground plan and then completely laid the new covering within two days. On Wednesday they were finished and the floor was walkable. Absolute madness!

Did you have to adjust your schedule?

No, nothing was delayed and none of the other trades were affected. We were able to keep our opening date. I never thought we would. In addition, the new floor has significantly reduced the noise level compared to before, the shopping trolleys practically slid over it. We also have a lot less breakage than before because the vinyl is springy - unlike the old tiles. That completes the positive overall picture.

Could you think of other uses for Allura Puzzle?

The covering would be very suitable as a covering for a trade fair stand because it can be removed just as quickly as it was laid. This makes it ideal for temporary use. I could also imagine designing a goods department in our store differently and making it stand out visually. Then you could simply replace the vinyl tiles. This floor is simply incredibly robust and flexible at the same time. We are very, very happy with it.
