IKC Magenta chooses durable floor with wood look
The Integral Child Centre Magenta, winner of the Sustainable Building Award 2020, is one of the healthiest and most sustainable schools in Europe, a fully bio-based building. The Child Centre is climate-neutral and gas-free and is heated and cooled by sound waves. This is unique in the world. The system uses solar heat from the panels on the roof of the school and converts it into cooling using thermoacoustics.
The building complies with Fresh Schools class A and (partly) B, achieves an average GPR score of 9.0 and is constructed from as many circular and biological materials as possible. Think of preserved wooden facades, bio-based insulation material, wooden curtain walls and walls finished with recycled jeans.
The whole building exudes an atmosphere of natural materials, with wood predominating. So does the floor. Initially the choice fell on Impressa, our highly sustainable strip material made from 85% natural raw materials with a strong polyester backing for dimensional stability. Unfortunately, this could not be delivered on time due to the Corona perils.
In the end we chose Allura Wood, the most durable choice from the product range of PVC strips. The wish was to install a wooden look floor that would run through the entire building, without interruptions, with a warm and homely appearance. Everything reinforces each other; the floor, the furnishings, the good acoustics and the ease of maintenance!
Marmoleum Sport move is located in the gymnasium.
