That is new for a municipal project like this: The WOODZ children's and youth centre in Schweinfurt's Bergl district is largely made of wood. In the period from June 2020 to June 2021, the design by the architectural firm Brück/Jordan from Würzburg was put into practice, with a special focus on sustainability and energy saving. The energy standard of the building is around 60 percent below the legally required value, thanks to LED technology, extensively greened flat roofs, insulation in passive house standard, district heating supply and photovoltaic system. The name of the new children's and youth recreation centre WOODZ is a combination of wood and "Wutz" (pig from the legends surrounding the city's history). The facility with 650 m² of floor space offers children and youths the opportunity to engage in sporting and creative leisure activities under pedagogical guidance and to cultivate social contacts.
The daily routine in such a facility also places high demands on the interior design, especially the flooring. It has to be robust, easy to clean and visually appealing. Since the focus of this project was on sustainability, it was also a prerequisite that the flooring also fulfilled this criterion. For this reason, Marmoleum from Forbo Flooring won the race - a hard-wearing and climate-neutral linoleum floor covering. The insensitive colour Real dark bistre was chosen. The marbling is created from a mixture of several colours and is available in a wide range of colours. The Topshield surface finish ensures easy cleaning and a perfect long-term appearance.
