How to boost precision and durability in automotive production

SEAT
Barcelona (Spain)

The customer

The Spanish automobile manufacturer SEAT, which has been part of Volkswagen AG since 1986, has invested a total of 57 million euros in its Barcelona plant - a large part of it in a new body press.

The official inauguration of this plant took place in June 2018.

Application

With this investment, SEAT intends to increase the production level by 15 percent.
In the automotive industry, car body presses are a central unit in the production process: Sheet metal parts are turned into doors there, fenders or car roofs. So that the sheet metal can be deformed more easily, it is first warmed up, then sent to the press and then conveyed for further processing.

Our belting solution

Since April 2018, SEAThas been doing this on twin conveyors equipped with extremely robust Transilon belts E 20/M U1/U3 GSTR-NA in the dimensions 69,220 x 1,550 mm.
Twin conveyors means that the belts have to move absolutely and precisely synchronized - longitudinally and laterally.
This belt type is coarsely structured, antistatic, cut-resistant and particularly resistant.

Result

In 2018 only, SEAT Barcelona produced 52 million stamped parts for various brands of the Volkswagen Group and exported them to 22 plants in six countries.

Thanks to this successful application at SEAT, Movement Systems signed contracts for more comparable projects at PSA in France and for SCHULER in China - some belts with lengths of more than 75 meters.
