After Dresden, Berlin is the second German location for a "student hotel" that follows the special idea of combining classic hotel operations with student living and working. In cities like Amsterdam, Paris, Barcelona and Florence, this mixture of semester accommodation for students, hostel and co-working space, which the Dutch hotel group is expanding throughout Europe, has existed for some time. Since autumn 2019, 475 rooms and apartments plus communal kitchens, seminar and meeting rooms, library, fitness area and a restaurant and bar have been available to the approximately 190000 students as well as business travellers and capital city tourists in the newly built hotel and office complex in the Alexanderstraße. Bookable for single nights as well as for whole semesters.
The interior design is as innovative as the concept: Colourful and stylish design elements create an inspiring environment for a young target group. The interior designers from Studio Aisslinger mainly chose textile floor coverings for furnishing the various areas: comfortable, sound-reducing Tessera carpet tiles for the corridors and hotel rooms, robust needlefelt floor coverings of the Forte brand for the fitness studio and for the common rooms the high-performance, easy-care Flotex textile floor covering in a trendy terrazzo look from the Sottsass designer collection. Forbo's multi-faceted text range provided the right flooring solution for all room-specific requirements.
