Student challenges

We challenge students from design academies worldwide to work with our products and create whatever they feel can be made with it. Working with young designers allows us to look at our products in a different way, exploring the possibilities from a different angle, whilst allowing students to express their creativity and gain work experience.     Student Challenge | ETSAB Barcelona

    Recently, Forbo Flooring initiated a collaborative project with the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB). Twenty fifth-year architecture students participated, divided into five teams of four, each assigned a different task related to Forbo Flooring's design philosophy, 'Dynamics of a Building'.

    In 2021 and 2022, Forbo Flooring asked a group of students from LISAA (L'Institut Supérieur des Arts Appliqués), the renowned Architecture & Design Institute in Paris, to participate in a Student Challenge. Both projects were so successful that they have now resulted in a third Student Challenge with a new group of LISAA students.

    Twenty-one students of IMIAD, the interior design masters programme at Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences in Germany, explored the functional properties and potential of Marmoleum, furniture linoleum and pinboard linoleum through practical experiments and a methodical approach.

    Student Challenge Forbo X KADK Denmark

    Forbo Flooring Systems challenged students from the Royal Academy of Architecture in Copenhagen (KADK) to create a small interior product or piece of furniture using recyclable materials.

    Student Challenge Forbo X Beckhams, 2nd Edition

    Over the course of three weeks, 12 students from Beckmans College worked tirelessly on the project to to create a flooring design that would enhance the sense of safety and wellbeing in a space.

    In October 2021 twelve Master students from the Parisian Design school ENSCI - Les Ateliers searched for new applications of Furniture linoleum with a focus on the contemporary working environment.

    With the support of designer Pauline Esparon, the students discovered new qualities and properties of Furniture linoleum that enabled them to present a wide range of beautiful projects.

    Student Challenge - Forbo x Emily Carr University

    In September 2019, Professor Christian Blyt from the Emily Carr University in Vancouver approached Forbo Flooring Systems and Danish retail brand BoConcept about the possibility of doing a collective project with his third-year Industrial Design students.

    Very quickly, a collaboration was formed that allowed his students access to Furniture Linoleum, a unique and sustainable material made by Forbo, and the opportunity to design and build a multifunctional cart for compact urban living spaces.

    Twenty students from the Architecture & Design Institute LISAA in Paris, were challenged to design spaces by using the different dynamics of a building as a starting point. By using the possibilities offered by the broad choice of floors from Forbo Flooring, these creative students were able to reach remarkable results.

    In January of 2020, Forbo Flooring Systems connected with the Zokei University in Tokyo, to discuss a potential collaboration. Together with Professor Toshiaki Morita the project scope was discussed, in which Furniture Linoleum would be the starting point.

    To approach this collaboration from a fresh angle, Toshiaki proposed to involve the FUTURE LIFE FACTORY, a studio in Panasonic’s Design Center specialized in cutting-edge development. They are always rethinking the question: what will living well mean in the future?
