An extensive range of Forbo Flooring Systems’ products have been installed throughout Liverpool’s first-ever dedicated Cancer Hospital: Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Liverpool (CCC-L).

The new centre will care for people across Merseyside and Cheshire, and those in the surrounding area, providing highly-specialist care including pioneering immunotherapy and the most advanced forms of radiotherapy.

BDP, the international practice of architects, designers, engineers and urbanists, were appointed to design the whole CCC-L building, including the interior and landscaped spaces. Arranged over 11 storeys, BDP decided to provide each level of the building with its own identity, which was achieved by choosing a different colour scheme for each floor. For example, for the ground floor and main entrances BDP specified an array of finishes – including the flooring – in relaxing and comforting green shades, while the chemotherapy suite on the sixth floor featured soothing purple hues.

Forbo’s naturally bacteriostatic flooring, Marmoleum, was installed throughout most of the building, including the general circulation areas, in all patient spaces and bedrooms and receptions. While its Tessera Layout and Outline carpet tiles were fitted in non-clinical areas, such as offices.

What’s more, Forbo’s Safestep (R12) was installed across all of the kitchens; Surestep (R10) was fitted in the ensuite WCs and its technically advanced flooring, Colorex EC and SD, were specified for the specialist equipment areas to control static discharge.

Thanks to Forbo’s large portfolio of solutions, BDP was able to successfully choose floor coverings suitable for all areas of the CCC-L – and in shades that matched the various colour themes throughout. It has created a fresh, non-clinical space that patients will feel at ease and comfortable in when attending appointments.
