New Bridewell offers thoroughly modern studio-living for students in the heart of Bristol city centre and offers a range of facilities, including social spaces and quiet study areas. Jasper Sanders, Design Director at Jasper Sanders + Partners, said: “Student accommodation has become a competitive market as end users are now very discerning about the quality of environments they want to live in. Fresh Student Living, our client for this project, wanted us to create an inspiring and vibrant place, which would not only attract future tenants but also help them to connect easily with one another once they had moved in.
“To achieve this, we set about creating a single destination for the communal areas rather than singular rooms.
Jasper Sanders, Design Director: “The different activity areas are distinguished yet connected through the floor design. We opted for Forbo’s Tessera Layout carpet tiles for this area, as the collection is available in a variety of bright, contemporary colours, and the modular format meant that we could create a unique design, reflecting the long history of the University’s Department of Computer Science.”
The flooring design flowing throughout the area consists of an anthracite grey backdrop, with bright colour pops installed in a pixelated fashion at certain points, which highlight the different activity spaces. For example in the quiet study area, Forbo’s Tessera Layout in a bright yellow shade has been installed and within the more social areas, an ocean blue was chosen. Jasper continued: “The Tessera Layout carpet tiles were not only ideal for this project because of their aesthetics, but the robustness of the product also meant that it would stand the test of time – even when it is subjected to heavy footfall.
Jasper concluded: “When it comes to student accommodation, you can’t afford to be minimalistic; you need to create interiors that will excite and energise students. As such, it has been great working with the team at Forbo as not only is the service quick and efficient, but the products on offer are very stylish and well designed – helping us to create the interiors we envisage.”
