Forbo Flooring Systems’ impressive digital printing capabilities gave Gilltown the scope to have some real fun with the interior design of new student accommodation in Newcastle, resulting in a scheme like no other – all while providing the performance properties required for a heavily used building.

“The flooring played a key role within this project and we were determined to opt for floor coverings that have rarely been seen in this kind of environment before. After working with Forbo on earlier projects, we knew it’s wide range of high-end and quality products, along with its impressive bespoke design capabilities would help us to achieve this.” - James Gillespie, Project manager.

The most striking floor coverings to be installed were the array of designs chosen from the Flotex Vision collection, which offers over 500 digitally printed designs in high-level photographic resolutions. James continued: “When we were choosing the different floor coverings for the building, we had some great fun – especially when we were picking designs from the Flotex Vision range. For the Group study space we opted for the calming Riverbed design, which looks like a flowing brook. In the TV room, where there are beanbags for the students to relax, we chose the Knit design as it looked a bit like a comfortable woolly jumper. In contrast, we selected the dynamic, linear design Energy for the gym, in order to motivate those who would use the space.” Thanks to its unique construction, Forbo’s Flotex is a hybrid product that delivers all the warmth and comfort associated with a carpet whilst combining the cleanability of a resilient floor covering – ideal for student accommodation like Roman House.
