St Patrick's Primary School in Collyhurst, Manchester set a demanding brief for the refurbishment of its nursery area, in which the flooring played a central role in not only the aesthetic design, but also the practical performance requirements. Nonetheless, the brief was successfully met by Forbo Flooring System's Sarlon acoustic vinyl range, because of its outstanding acoustic performance, long lasting good looks and low maintenance properties.

Specifying a flooring system for a primary school can be a daunting task due to the many demanding elements required. Slip and scratch resistance, easy cleaning and acoustic properties were top of the performance criteria for the flooring; yet the scope to create an attractive child-friendly design was equally important. However, it was a simple decision for Paul Davis, Contracts Manager at Calco Flooring in charge of the refurbishment.

Experience, gave Paul the confidence that Forbo was the right supplier for the job and on his recommendation, Sarlon Tech was used to create a winning design: “We had used Forbo products before, and found them to be very good quality.” Tasked with both the interior design and installation for the refurbishment of the nursery area, Paul knew that this product presented all the qualities he needed to answer the job’s demanding brief.

Joanne Russell, Bursar for the school explains why it was so essential to get the flooring right: “The children’s artwork covers the walls, so the floors were really the only area we could use to create the high impact design we wanted.”

Paul concludes: “We were really pleased with the outcome and it was nice to do something out of the ordinary. The school was delighted with the finished product, so that is the most important thing from our point of view.”
