Forbo Flooring Systems was the supplier of choice for the large and prestigious new build: NHS Fife. The impressive extension at the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy features over 40,000m2 of Forbo’s Marmoleum and Step safety flooring ranges, meeting the strict hygiene, durability and sustainability requirements of the project.

The new Victoria Hospital’s extension adds 500 beds to the existing building, with a bridge link connecting the two at first floor level due for completion in June 2012. The specification of Forbo’s Marmoleum, its own branded linoleum range, Surestep safety flooring and Onyx wetroom products was agreed between interior designers for the project BDP, Glasgow and contractors Balfour Beatty, largely based on positive experience of Forbo’s product performance and project management in hospitals across the UK.

Forbo’s Marmoleum was specified in all of the hospital corridors, wards, theatres and general clinical areas. The product’s natural bacteriostatic properties, which have been confirmed by independent laboratories, give ultimate protection against the bacteria MRSA and E Coli, which was a key factor in this specification for the hospital.

A total of 10 bright and striking colours from the Marmoleum real range were chosen, from dandelion yellow to hyacinth mauve, which were used on different floors, visually differentiating each section.

Dominic Gallagher, Project Director at Consort Healthcare, on behalf at Victoria Hospital comments: “The aim was to create a high quality, modern environment and we are all very pleased with the outcome.”
