The VTI in Bruges is a technical school with 800 students aged 12 to 19. Part of the building is boarding school. There is also ample sports infrastructure and adult education is offered.
"The starting point in our concept is a tight module or frame with a visible constructive framework that guarantees freedom and efficiency" says Jaap van Es, project architect of the VTI Brugge. "We called it: the 'breathing school'. Open where it can be open, more closed where it should be closed. The result? A school that is orderly and where everyone sees each other and (may) be seen."
