Danish-American artist Maria Dubin created a stimulating and life-affirming organic flower in Marmoleum. Its vigorous, confident colours are embedded in a garden of green.
The project originated form a promise Dubin made to a close friend who was dying from cancer. She aimed to enliven the uncomfortable, cold atmosphere of the waiting and treatment areas of the hospital’s radiotherapy department. In collaboration with composer Frederik Magle and lighting designer Kim Boch, Maria Dubin has created the overall artwork 'The Secret Garden'. Patients, staff and visitors can have a holistic experience in this space with its unique ccombination of colours, shapes, lights, sounds and music.
Marmoleum was an obvious choice for the floor, as linoleum is already a well-known product in Danish hospitals and meets the most demanding hygiene standards. The image in the floor is created by using Forbo’s aquajet technique and the different parts are connected by welding rods in matching colours.
